Low-cost retirement units planned for Abingdon

Date: September 10, 2009

Presbyterian Support Central is making low-cost retirement units available for sale at its Abingdon site.

The social service provider has identified a significant number of people in Wanganui who would buy retirement units if they were available at a low entry price.

Chief Executive Chris Graham says Presbyterian Support Central will offer vacant rental units at Abingdon for sale on a Licence to Occupy basis.

“We hope we’ll be able to make them available in the $165,000- $175,000 price band which will enable people who presently feel excluded from the market to find a retirement home,” he says.

Presbyterian Support Central will ensure continued rental accommodation in Wanganui, with rental units available at Enliven Kowhainui Home in Virginia Road.

No residents presently renting units at Abingdon will be affected.  They will continue to receive the same services they presently enjoy.  Units will only be prepared and offered for sale as they become vacant, Mr Graham says.

Four units are being prepared for sale and Presbyterian Support Central hopes to have them on the market by the end of the month.
