Pedal power gives charity a boost
Date: November 5, 2009
Pedal Pushers and Presbyterian Support Central have teamed up for a summer cycling event with a twist – the Wanganui to Palmerston North Charity Bike Ride.
The ride, which starts at 9am on Sunday, February 7, is one of the few charity cycling events held in the lower North Island and is aimed at people of all abilities – from competitive to non-competitive riders.
The 95km event begins at Jubilee Stadium in Wanganui and ends at Colquhoun Park in Palmerston North. It will be followed by a hot meal for all participants, accompanied by live music.
Entrants are also encouraged to take up the Sponsorship Challenge to raise funds for Presbyterian Support Central. Riders who secure sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues will be in to win prizes including $600 accessories vouchers from Pedal Pushers, bike shoes, helmets and bike computers. The top fundraiser will win a $1300 road bike from Pedal Pushers.
All money raised will help support Presbyterian Support Central’s programmes, which positively affect the lives of children, families and older people in the lower North Island. Presbyterian Support Central is a not-for-profit organisation which runs 17 aged care facilities and four Family Works counselling centres in the region.
The Wanganui to Palmerston North Charity Bike Ride costs $50 for adults to enter and $35 for children under 16. The first 500 registered riders will receive sponsored gift packs which include drink bottles, fruit and energy bars.
Registration forms are available from any bike shop in the lower North Island, or by visiting the website www.pscevents.org.nz/bikeride
