Ann SinclairCharitable Trust 2008 Tertiary Grants

Presbyterian Support Central is pleased to announce grants valued over $90,000 to be distributed throughout the lower North Island through the Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust.  The Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust has three categories under which grant applications are considered.  Category A is for students studying Tertiary Agriculture, Horticulture, Orcharding and Animal Husbandry.

Ryan Sayer has received $3000 towards course related expenses including living costs, saddle, work gear and dogs.  From Palmerston North Ryan is in his first year fulltime at Waipaoa Station as a cadet.  Placement at Waipaoa Station is a new venture that started in 2006 providing a place for young men to learn pastoral farming skills with a strong emphasis on livestock.

“If I hadn’t been successful in my application it would have been really hard for me”, Ryan said.  “The grant has helped me study as well as work fulltime.  At the end of this year I will have achieved so much more”, he said.

Ryan attended Palmerston North Boy’s High School and completed Levels 2-4 in Agriculture via Tairawhiti Polytechnic.

Brock Young has received $4000 towards his Diploma in Agriculture at Telford Rural Polytechnic in Balclutha.  In 2007 Brock worked every Monday on a dairy farm in Martinborough through the gateway programme with Richard and Janine Osborne.

“Brock shows great initiative with any tasks he undertakes and is very capable” Richard said.  “With such a strong interest in dairy farming Brock has a bright future indeed”, he said.

Campbell Young from Carterton has received $4000 and is following in his grandfathers footsteps as a farmer.

At 16 years of age Campbell is very clear about his future in farming.  “My grandfather had a farm in Wanganui and I used to spend a lot of time with him.  He was tragically killed on the farm and I am really proud to be able to study at Telford Rural Polytechnic because I live and breath farming like he did”, Campbell said.

Distributions from the Ann Sinclair Charitable Trust are made by Presbyterian Support Central annually towards the end of the year.  The closing date for applications is 31 October.
