The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) and Presbyterian Support East Coast (PSEC) Boards have agreed that a new Cranford Hospice Board will be established to oversee the direction and performance of Cranford Hospice.

Cranford Hospice will remain a service of Presbyterian Support East Coast.

This follows the recommendations made by the Cranford Governance Development Group, appointed by the Hawke's Bay District Health Board and supported by PSEC in June. The group has also produced a charter to define the role of the new board.

Former Port of Napier chief executive Ken Gilligan will chair the board which includes Napier GP Tim Bevin and Hayley Anderson from Hastings Health Centre representing clinical interests, while Judie Webster and David Pearson will represent community interests. Two PSEC Board representatives, Frane Rosandich and I, make up the remainder of the Cranford Hospice Board.

DHB contracts for palliative care will continue to be with PSEC.

Both Napier and Hastings Mayors were part of the Cranford Governance Development Group and both have supported this appointment publicly, saying that the new board will assist Cranford Hospice to deliver quality solutions, meet community expectation and return community confidence in Cranford.
