Enliven Positive Ageing service celebrates 1,000th ‘graduate’
Enliven Key Support worker Sheryl Tetai was yesterday recognised as the country's 1,000 graduate in the National Certificate in Foundations Skills. She was joined at the graduation ceremony by 89 other Enliven Key support workers who were also graduating in the National Certificate.
Enliven staff trainer, Cherie Saunders says that the comprehensive in-house training programme gives Key Support Workers the ability to provide older people with the support they need to remain in their own homes and to achieve other goals that are important to them.
“More and more older people are staying longer in their homes, often who require high levels of care. The training ensures that our caring workforce are well equipped to provide the best possible support to older people to remain independent and safe at home.”
The group of Key Support Workers, who all provide restorative home-based support to older people in Auckland and Counties-Manukau, received the certificates from Presbyterian Support Northern CEO Dr Rod Watts at a special event at Faith City Church in Manukau that was attended by friends and family of the ‘graduating’ staff and a number of invited guests.
The National Certificate covers topics such as health & safety, understanding your role, infection control and moving people and equipment. It is supported by the Community Support Service Industry training organisation Careerforce.
Enliven Positive Ageing Services provide individually-tailored, restorative home-based support usually encompassing assistance with personal care, household tasks and exercise programmes.
