Who We Are

Presbyterian Support South Canterbury is one of seven autonomous regional organisations making a difference together across New Zealand under the Presbyterian Support banner. Our core activities concentrate on assisting children, youth and families; elderly people; and people with physical disabilities.

Mission Statement

Presbyterian Support South Canterbury mission is "Supporting people with quality care and Christian love".

We give effect to our mission throughout the South Canterbury Community by:

  • Providing a range of quality services to fill gaps in community need
  • Enabling people to respond to the needs of others
  • Careful stewardship and sharing of resources entrusted to us.

Presbyterian Support South Canterbury is an incorporated society registered under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957. Our forerunner, the Presbyterian Social Services Association of South Canterbury was formed by Presbyterian Church members in May 1918, and opened the NorthHaven Children's Home in October 1918.

The organisation has progressed through the years by widening its focus and services in response to community needs. It also provides care for the older people and now offers a full range of residential services, as well as day care activities.

Many of our financial supporters and volunteers are Presbyterians but we are independent from the Presbyterian Church and are responsible for raising our own funds for services which are offered to all in the community, regardless of race, beliefs or background.

You don't have to be a Presbyterian to be supported by, work for, or support Presbyterian Support.

Around 300 skilled, caring and professional full and part-time staff members work within Presbyterian Support facilities and share their many individual talents and skills with the people of the South Canterbury community through our services. Many volunteers also play a vital role in our work by having a positive input into the services provided and help make our facilities more homely.
