We believe everybody
deserves to enjoy life,
whatever their age
For husband and wife, Graham and Sylvia Hencke, retirement is about seizing the day and doing the things you never had the chance to.
Since moving to Enliven’s Coombrae Village in Feilding in late 2013, the couple says they have more time for what they love.
“We wanted to live in a place where we could enjoy our retirement without having to worry about the house,” explains Graham.
Now Graham and Sylvia don’t have to worry about property maintenance, tending to the gardens, or finding someone to mind their home if they decide to do a little travelling.
Sylvia says they’re also enjoying having more time to volunteer in the community.
“Since we’ve lived here we’ve been able to volunteer much more,” says Sylvia.
“It’s good to be able to give back; when you’re working you don’t have time for that sort of thing.”
Living at Coombrae Village means Graham and Sylvia are fully independent and enjoy their privacy, while being part of a vibrant village community, Sylvia explains.
“It’s a nice and friendly environment here – we all get along and say hello, but we’re still very independent. Everyone respects each others privacy.”
Sylvia says the village residents’ social club organises regular events at the neighbouring Coombrae Home, also operated by Enliven.
“Twice a month we get together for food and an activity at the home next door. It’s a good opportunity for us to get to know each other better.”
Graham and Sylvia say they’re glad they made the move to Coombrae Village when they did.
“You don’t want to leave moving to a retirement village too late,” explains Graham.
“Live for today. That’s what we’re doing and that’s the main reason why we moved in.”
