We believe everybody
deserves to enjoy life,
whatever their age
The atmosphere at Enliven Central’s Kowhainui Home is bright and easy-going; the people are caring and welcoming. Situated on lovely grounds on St John’s Hill, this modern, purpose-built facility is a well-known local icon.
At Kowhainui Home we offer:
- rest home level care
- hospital level care for people with complex clinical needs
- short term respite and health recovery care
- an engaging day programme.
The Kowhainui difference
At Kowhainui Home we have created a true elder-centred community. We are one of New Zealand’s few fully certified Eden Alternative rest homes.
That means as well as providing high quality medical care and daily living support, at Kowhainui Home we support elders to make decisions about their life and wellbeing, and to continue doing the things they love in a way that’s right for them. Residents of Kowhainui Home are supported to maintain their independence and routines, and to continue with hobbies, interests and passions. After all, that’s what adds life to life!
Family and friends
Sometimes people ask us when their family and friends can visit. The answer is anytime. At Kowhainui Home we truly understand the importance of family and friends. Residents are encouraged to invite their family and friends to enjoy the various lounges, gardens and courtyards, or join them for a meal.
At Enliven we believe pets and animals can be both calming and energising. So, at Kowhainui Home you’ll find we not only have animals visiting, but we often have cats, dogs and birds living here too.
If you have a special pet that is part of your family, Kowhainui Home could be the best place for you. Your pet is welcome to move in with you if it ‘gets on’ with other people and animals. Talk to us about the options.
Your place. Your space.
At Kowhainui Home you’ll enjoy the community feel, shared lounges, entertaining areas and secure central gardens. But of course, you’ll also have your own private room and ensuite. This is your space.
The modern rooms can be furnished, but residents are invited to make the space their own. You can bring along your own familiar furniture and furnishings. Many residents bring along photos, artwork, ornaments, furniture and bed covers.
We’re also able to offer some premium rooms. These rooms are larger and include both an ensuite and kitchenette.
Our staff are not only highly trained, they’re also friendly, caring and embrace an elder-directed philosophy of care.
At Kowhainui Home nurses are on-duty 24-hours-a-day. Our doctor (GP) visits at least twice per week and we are in regular contact to ensure all clinical needs are met. Of course, if you have other health needs, such as physiotherapy, we’re usually able to arrange for a health professional to visit you at Kowhainui Home.
Day Activity Programme
The Day Activity Programme at Enliven Central’s Kowhainui Home is very popular with residents in the local community.
The programme will give you opportunities to socialise with others at a similar stage in life and take part in a variety of fun and engaging activities. Activities include sight-seeing trips, guest entertainers, themed parties, arts, craft, music and cooking.
Kowhainui Home’s day programme runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
