Family Works Workshops

Family Works is joining with international and local experts to offer affordable professional development workshops for those working in the social services sector and related industries.

The workshops will bring thought leaders and national and international experts to Wellington for a range of practical and inspirational education opportunities.

The workshops are for Government departments, NGOs, social service providers, and schools, as well as social workers and counsellors.

Family Works General Manager Julia Hennessy says the workshops will cover specialist subjects such as restorative practices in prisons and schools, community collaboration, professional supervision and more.

“Around our region we work closely with other providers and agencies to make sure children, families and whānau are getting the best support – helping to make New Zealand the best place to raise children,” says Julia.

“These workshops will be a great way for the industry to ensure we’re doing all we can for vulnerable people in our communities, schools and prisons.”

She explains that the idea came about after seeing a need for more affordable and innovative training for those in the social services sector.

“Through my role at Family Works and on the board of Restorative Practices International I am fortunate to meet those on the cutting-edge whose work is setting great examples that we can learn from,” says Julia.

“We’re excited to be able to bring some of those people together with policy makers, on-the-ground staff and other social service providers here in Wellington.”

In late 2016 Family Works are holding workshops about restorative schools and restorative parenting. Further announcements will be made later in the year.

Those interested can register by emailing or calling 04 439 4976. The workshops cost $250.00+gst per person.
