We believe everybody
deserves to enjoy life,
whatever their age
Illness, accidents, disabilities and ageing are all things that can affect our independence. But Enliven wants to support Kapiti residents to maintain, or even regain, their independence at home and in the community.
Enliven offers a range of services in Kapiti, including in-home support, modified Tai Chi classes and an engaging day activity programme for older people.
Enliven community support manager Bronwyn Williams explains these services are becoming increasingly popular in the Kapiti community.
“The services Enliven provides means people are able to stay in their own home with some additional support.”
She says Enliven’s in-home services focus on supporting people to maintain their independence at home, without the need to move to a rest home.
“Our support workers can help with personal care and household management. We work with each person to work out what support is right for them.”
Additionally, the day programme at Enliven’s Kapiti Cottage in Paraparaumu has been developed to meet the needs of older people who are living in their own homes, or with family, and need some additional support or company during the day.
“Many of the day programme guests enjoy the social aspect of the group. It also provides peace of mind and respite for family or carers.”
Enliven’s day programme at Kapiti Cottage includes a variety of stimulating and engaging activities including games, crafts and gentle exercise. Guests also enjoy morning and afternoon tea and a two course lunch.
Bronwyn says Enliven also offers Tai Chi classes to help people to maintain their health and independence.
“Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise for older people and it has so many health benefits, not to mention it’s a great way to socialise.”
