Continuing to provide top quality care in a homely environment is the focus for Willard Home’s new manager Christine Tester, who took the reins of the popular Palmerston North rest home last month.
Christine is no stranger to Willard Home’s residents and staff; she’s been Willard’s care manager for the last nine years.
“I’ve worked in clinical roles for 20 years now, but for me it’s more than medical, it’s about looking after our elders entire wellbeing,” says Christine.
“As both facility manager and clinical manager I will concentrate on keeping Willard as homely as possible for our residents and continuing to provide the best possible care.”
Christine’s relationship with Enliven’s Willard Home began when her grandmother lived there many years ago.
“This was my grandmother’s last home and I was impressed with the care she received here. When a care manager position became available I applied, and here I am nine years later.”
She says Willard Home’s model of care, the Eden Alternative, is what makes the home unique to other aged care facilities she has worked at.
“What I like most about Enliven is that staff to spend time with the residents on a social level. Not only is it ok, but it’s encouraged because it’s part of the way that we care for them. We connect with them as individuals.”
“Eden uses 10 principles that touch on ideas such as variety and spontaneity, companionship, contact with children and animals, continuing hobbies and meaningful activity,” Christine explains.
“Here we help people to maintain their independence and have a sense of purpose and fun in their lives, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”
