New sites for Family Works

Family Works is kicking off the New Year with two new sites: Porirua and Palmerston walking with young child through park

In late 2014, Family Works was invited to establish a centre for women and children at the Palmerston North Women’s Centre.

The site will initially provide a base for community navigators working with women through the Out of Gate programme and Family Dispute Resolution mediators.

Coordinator Kat Steeneken says Family Works is excited about being part of the Manawatu community.

“It’s awesome to be here and we’re looking forward to working with other organisations to meet the needs of this community.”

She explains that in time Family Works plan on offering more services for Manawatu women and children including social work, counselling and parenting programmes. “Once we’re up-and-running we’ll look to get funding to offer additional services.”

Meanwhile in Porirua, Pember House is the new base for the Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) team.

Programme manager Taiana Anderson says it’s great to be part of the Porirua Community Services Centre hub.

“It’s a fantastic location for the social workers because the majority of the schools we work with are based in Porirua and Titahi Bay, plus we’re working alongside other agencies that are providing support to the same population.”
