Presbyterian Support Central is led by a dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about delivering quality care and support across our communities.

From social workers and aged care nurses to strategic leaders and operational staff - every member of our team brings compassion, expertise, and a shared commitment to our mission.

Together, we uphold our purpose: to support and care for people at the most vulnerable times of their lives.

Senior Leadership Team

Our leadership team provides strategic direction, ensures quality service delivery, and supports our staff across the Central region. They bring years of experience in social services, community development, and organisational leadership.

Muhammad Naseem (Joe) Asghar

Joe Asghar’s multi-layered experience spans health and government and includes roles at the Royal Society of New Zealand, Diabetes NZ, ACC and Physiotherapy NZ.

Actively involved in a range of community groups and networks, Joe does volunteer work with the homeless, is a Justice of the Peace, chair of Te Awakairangi Health Network, a member of the Pharmacy Council Professional Conduct Committee and General Practice NZ Strategic Council.

He’s also heavily involved with Rotary and the Onslow Community Church in Ngaio, Wellington.

He considers the work of PSC and its amazing team as essential in today’s society where those in need are often overlooked or left alone. Joe is driven by the objects of the organisation to be there for those who need that help and support

In his spare time, Joe enjoys fishing, DIY and going to the movies with his family.

Nicola Turner

Nicola is the Chief Operating Officer for Presbyterian Support Central. In this role she has responsibility for both Enliven and Family Works services.

Originally an Occupational Therapist, Nicola left clinical work in the late 1980s to become Registrar of the Occupational Therapy Board. Since then her career has spanned a range of health management roles, including Quality Manager for the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, Service Manager at Hutt Hospital, Integrated Care Manager and then Older Persons Funding and Planning Manager at Hutt DHB. Nicola joined Presbyterian Support Central in 2006.

Nicola is also on the NZCCSS Older persons policy group and was an Eden in Oz and NZ Board member between 2009 and 2017.

Jonathan (Jono) Gan

Jonathan joined PSC in 2021, attracted to the organisations values and is passionate about the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need and for the communities that we serve. In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys watching Basketball, walks with his Japanese x German Spitz (Evie), and spending quality time with his family.

Andrea Stewart

Andrea joined Presbyterian Support Central in late 2022 and is the Chief Financial Officer.

Anthony Taylor

Anthony joined PSC in 2017 and is part of the senior leadership team at Presbyterian Support Central responsible for the strategic direction of our property portfolio. In his role as General Manager of Property, he is accountable for all property assets, strategic asset management, site development and maintenance.

Our Board

Peter Sherwin

Peter is a former Partner in Grant Thornton New Zealand, chartered accountants. He specialises in business development, governance and succession planning. Peter holds a number of governance and advisory roles with business and public benefit entities.

Nigel Willis

Nigel is an orthopaedic surgeon currently working for Capital and Coast District Health Board, as well as private practice. He has a number of roles with the New Zealand National Board of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, is an associated clinical leader at Capital and Coast DHB and the chair of the Brooklyn Community Centre.

Cheree Ratapu-Foster

Cheree Ratapu-Foster serves as the Kaiwhakahaere for the Maori Women’s Welfare League (Te Roopu Wahine Maori Toko I te Ora) in the Wellington region. She has a deep commitment to the league’s mission of empowering wahine, whanau and communities where the League holds contracts. She says it’s a privilege to be part of upholding the League’s legacy. Prior to this role she was a Director of Commissioning and Procurement Kahu Taurima (Early years and Maternity) with Te Aka Whai Ora (Maori Health Authority). She the previous Business Development Manager for Family Works PSC, and therefore has a strong understanding of the organisation. She holds the role of chairperson with a small ngo provider in the Raetihi catchment area and is passionate about building positive authentic relationships across Maori and Pacific communities and brings a wealth of experience in strategic leadership and change management. 

Pat Waite

Pat Waite QSM, JP was a previous interim CEO of Presbyterian Support Central and is now a member of our Board. Pat currently holds the position of General Manager St Vincent de Paul Society and has enjoyed a career within the financial services industry and latterly within the trustee industry.

Operational Leadership Team

Our Operations Management team brings together expertise across asset management, ICT, HR, fundraising, marketing and communications, projects, administration, clinical leadership, regional management, and board support. We are here to support and enable our frontline teams in the incredible mahi they do, providing the systems, coordination, and capability that help them deliver high-quality services to the communities we serve.

Samantha (Sam) Hamilton

Samantha is Business Services Manager and Board Secretary at PSC, where she leads administration, governance, and procurement. She helps ensure strong policies and processes are in place to support PSC’s Enliven Homes and Family Works offices.

Having joined PSC in 2021, Samantha brought a background in Marketing and Communications from the energy sector. She now applies those skills within a purpose-driven organisation that supports some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most vulnerable people.

Samantha values the dynamic nature of PSC, where no two days are ever the same, and feels privileged to contribute to the positive impact PSC teams make every day.

Darryl Simons

Darryl joined Presbyterian Support Central in 2021 and is the Digital and ICT Manager, responsible for the strategic direction, delivery, and ongoing development of the organisation’s technology services.

With over 20 years’ experience in IT, Darryl has worked across a range of roles including development, infrastructure, and operations. In his role, he supports both Enliven and Family Works, ensuring technology is reliable, secure, and enables staff to deliver high-quality care and support.

Darryl is passionate about using technology to improve everyday experiences for staff and the people we support, with a focus on simple, practical solutions that make a meaningful difference across our communities.

Lillian BaylyMccredie

Lillian joined PSC in 2021 within the Business Services & Sustainability team. In her role as the Projects and Business Change Manager she has led transformation initiatives across Enliven, Family Works, IT, and Property.

Lillian works closely with teams to deliver practical, user-focused solutions that support sustainable operational improvement.

Shirelle Schubert

Shirelle is PSC’s Marketing, Communications & Fundraising Manager, bringing a decade of experience across marketing, communications, brand development and stakeholder engagement. Since joining PSC in 2024, she leads the organisation’s marketing, communications and fundraising functions across PSC, Enliven and Family Works.

Shirelle has built her career delivering strategic campaigns, leading brand and digital projects, and developing communications that strengthen engagement with customers, supporters and communities. Her experience spans both private and not-for-profit sectors, giving her a strong commercial lens alongside a deep commitment to purpose-driven work.

At PSC, she is focused on elevating brand visibility, growing supporter relationships, and ensuring the organisation’s impact is clearly communicated across the region. She is passionate about using storytelling and strategy to connect people with services that make a meaningful difference in their lives.

Mikaela Shannon

Mikaela is Enliven’s Clinical Director. She joined Presbyterian Support Central in 2023. Mikaela is a passionate and dedicated Clinical Director who has spent the past 10 years doing patient safety and quality improvement in various roles. Her dedication began at the age of 16 when starting as a Kitchen Assistant before progressing to a Healthcare Assistant for 12 years. Now, she’s proud to contribute towards Aged Care as Enlivens new Clinical Director, all while completing her PhD. After working 15 years in hospitals, Aged Care has equipped Mikaela to see matters in a different perspective. Her focus is on safety indicators and ensuring that all components are central to holistic care. “It’s been about the wellbeing of the resident and being at the center of everything the homes are doing. People are here to do the right thing,” she says. “It’s about understanding why they are there and what they need – it’s their home, and that is a top priority for all the people that I’ve spoken to over time.” Valuing progression and expertise expansion, Mikaela is currently working hard towards her PhD. One of many motivations to completing her degree was inspired by her desire to learn. “Learning is a cycle that we do every day – there’s something new that always pops up,” she says. “To know that by helping others learn, I’ve got to learn too.”

Peter Newman

Peter started his career in the financial, business and insurance sectors before looking to fulfil his dream of working to support the community. Driven by a desire to engage with the community and a passion for helping the elderly, Peter moved to the Wairarapa from Auckland in 2015 to take up his first role in aged care as Regional Manager for Access Home Health in Wellington. He joined Enliven in 2016 as the Manager of Kandahar Home and Court. He is now a Regional Manager and is a passionate advocate of Enliven’s elder-centred philosophy. “Enliven allows me to be a genuine, empathetic and principled leader with the ability to lead our teams to be resident centred, whilst empowering an environment and culture of strong personal values and ethics.”

Kiran Sunny

Kiran Sunny, known as Sunny, is the Regional Manager for Enliven. Hailing from the beautiful Indian state of Kerala, popularly known as ‘’God’s Own Country”, Sunny started his professional life in the Kiwi-land with Enliven in 2017 as a Business Analyst before moving onto his current role. Sunny has completed his Engineering Degree in Electronics & Telecommunication and is a Graduate Diploma holder in Computer & Information Sciences. He has also done his Masters in Business Administration. His previous work stints include working for 2 of the global Top 10 IT service providers, in Digital Presales Consulting and Application Support. With an “Always happy to help” attitude, what keeps him going is the understanding that all he does ultimately improves the lives of the elders in the community, albeit indirectly. A strong advocate of the concept of collaboration and creating synergies, he believes that the future belongs to those who can learn, un-learn and re-learn.

Oliver (Ollie) Meehan

Oliver Meehan (Ollie) is an Asset Manager with over 15 years’ facilities management experience and trade background in joinery spanning 20 years.

Ollie joined the Presbyterian Support Central property team in 2019 he brings strong hands-on knowledge of buildings, services, and maintenance, supporting practical decision-making around asset upkeep, villa upgrades, bedroom upgrades and capital projects.

Ollie works closely with site teams, contractors, and most importantly home and village residents and is known for a pragmatic, detail-focused, and collaborative approach.

Fleur Shouten

 

Fleur joined PSC in 2023 as the Human Resources Manager. She supports Enliven and Family Works teams, helping to build strong, sustainable workplaces that enable people to deliver high-quality care and support.

Her focus is on practical, people-centred HR, supporting leaders through change, fostering positive workplace cultures where people feel valued and supported, and ensuring processes are clear, fair, and aligned with organisational values.

She is passionate about creating environments where people feel supported to do their best work, especially in roles that make a real difference in the community.
