Revamped dining areas a treat for Kandahar Home

Residents at Enliven’s Kandahar Home are dining out in style following the upgrade of two of their dining areas.

The home in Masterton is thankful for a bequest it received from former staff member Jessie Greenaway, which has gone towards the upgrade work.

“We understand Jessie worked as a matron during her many years with Kandahar Home,” says manager Peter Newman.

“She requested that her gift be used for general improvements at the home.”

The finishing touches were added to the dining room area earlier this year when new lightshades arrived to provide more ambient lighting.

The room also features new, flooring, seating, curtains and new artwork is now hanging on the walls.

“It’s like a restaurant now – the upgrade has created a more inviting atmosphere to these well-used areas,” Peter says.

Upgrades to the resident kitchen and dining area in the home’s Cunningham Room have also just been completed, providing a purpose-built space for residents and their families to make a cup of tea or a snack.

The resident kitchen features a new bain-marie self-serve area, and has a new oven, dish drawer, microwave, and fridge.

Peter says providing kitchen and dining areas for the residents aligns with Enliven’s philosophy of care, which includes giving residents the opportunity to maintain their independence and have choice and variety in their lives.

Renovations to Kandahar Home’s main kitchen are also planned, which Jessie Greenaway’s generous bequest will also go towards.
